Location: Baške Oštarije
With my precious son, I had this incredible day in early September 2023 after the heat of Summer finally retreated. We drove up the highway towards Zadar and got off at Gospic. Soon after leaving Gospic you head to the direction of Karlobag and you find yourself in one of the most enchanting and fascinating mountain ridges of Croatia.
We walked two gorgeous easy-going trails and finished our day in the restaurant at the roadside.

The hostel Baske Ostarije is the only facility. It offers tasty meals, quick service and decent prices.
Take a walk:
We walked two trails this day. They were not demanding and there were not many climbs to cover. Trail one started at the Holy Elisabeth church where you can easily park your car. It leads you along a pretty creek and flowerfield meadows. We met a herd of sheep. Be aware that you are in bear country. Follow the track to the endpoint called Filipov Kuk and the impressive steep rock formation. But even more beautiful is the small forest lake. There is a roofed picnic place. We enjoyed this hike!
Our second walk started from the parking lot of the hostel. And offered us a fabulous view of the Adriatic Sea. It leads to a marvellous viewpoint called Kubus Ura
Photo tips:
It is a bit difficult to take good pictures of the lake. If you venture out in the early morning the meadows and the shepherd and his sheep make a very good photo opportunity.
